Hello friends,
As 2024 wraps up, the two-wheeler industry offers a mix of emotions. While some brands saw growth and reasons to celebrate, others faced a slowdown. Let’s take a closer look at how some of the biggest players in the market performed in December 2024.
Hero MotoCorp: A Year of Contrasts
Hero MotoCorp, the name synonymous with motorcycles in India, had a challenging December. The company reported a steep 22% drop in domestic sales compared to December 2023. They sold 2,94,152 units in December 2024, significantly lower than the 3,77,842 units sold a year earlier.
But before we label it a tough year for Hero, there’s a silver lining. For the entire calendar year 2024, Hero saw a remarkable 7.5% growth, delivering over 5.9 million two-wheelers. This growth was driven by strong performances in the 125cc motorcycle category, electric vehicles (EVs), and core offerings.
Niranjan Gupta, CEO of Hero MotoCorp, shared his optimism for 2025, promising exciting new launches, an expanded electric vehicle portfolio, and new scooter models. It seems Hero is gearing up for an exciting road ahead.
TVS Motors: Small Wins, Big Strides in EVs
TVS Motors had a relatively stable month. Their domestic sales in December 2024 stood at 2,15,075 units, a slight increase from the 2,14,988 units sold in December 2023.
However, the real excitement came from their electric vehicle segment. TVS recorded an impressive 79% growth in EV sales, with 20,171 units sold in December 2024 compared to 11,288 units in the same month the previous year. This significant leap highlights the growing adoption of EVs in India and TVS’s strong positioning in the segment.
Royal Enfield: Roaring into 2025
For Royal Enfield, December was nothing short of spectacular. The brand witnessed a solid 19% year-on-year growth, selling 67,891 units in December 2024 compared to 57,291 units the previous year.
CEO B. Govindarajan reflected on the year, calling it “remarkable.” He credited their success to the launch of several category-defining motorcycles and a warm reception in both domestic and international markets. With its growth momentum intact, Royal Enfield is all set to roar louder in 2025.
Suzuki Motorcycle India: Consistent Growth
Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) continued its growth story in December 2024. The company reported a 14% year-on-year increase in domestic sales, delivering 78,834 units compared to 69,025 units in December 2023.
According to Devashish Handa, Executive Vice President of SMIPL, this growth reflects not just the popularity of Suzuki’s products but also the quality of their after-sales services. It’s clear that Suzuki is building a strong bond with its customers, one satisfied rider at a time.
Bajaj Auto: A Challenging December
Not all brands had a reason to celebrate, though. Bajaj Auto, the maker of the iconic Pulsar, reported a sharp 19% decline in domestic sales. They sold 1,28,335 units in December 2024, down from 1,58,370 units in December 2023.
While Bajaj faced hurdles, it’s worth noting that the company has a strong history of innovation. Perhaps 2025 will bring new strategies and products to regain momentum.
Looking Ahead
The two-wheeler industry’s mixed performance in December 2024 paints a vivid picture of change and resilience. While some brands celebrated milestones and growth, others faced challenges that may pave the way for reinvention in the coming year.
As customers, we can expect an exciting lineup of motorcycles, scooters, and EVs in 2025. The focus on electric mobility, premium offerings, and customer satisfaction is bound to shape the industry’s future.
So, as we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025, let’s gear up for an exhilarating ride in the world of two-wheelers!
